REVIEW

Home Alone (ENGLISH)

Home Alone (John Williams). Home Alone is an album of nice and tremendously entertaining music. A brilliant score and 2 Williams' sung original compositions round a soundtrack of perfect Christmas spirit. And reflection of its goodness is the double Oscar nomination obtained by this soundtrack to the best score and to the best song (for Somewhere In My Memory). The soundtrack is a faithful reflection of what the movie is, that scores the hurries of the crazy McCallister family, and the adventures, the loneliness, the Christmas spirit and the enormous ingenuity of the small one of the family, Kevin, who has to face in solitarily both clumsy thieves who assault his house for Christmas.

The Christmas carols are present in the soundtrack so that they round the Christmas experience, Somewhere In My Memory is outlined in multiple occasions to emphasize the loneliness of the small Kevin before the accidental lack of his family that is in a trip in Paris, and the most dynamic tracks like We Slept In or Making the Plane are simply brilliant.

The soundtrack was commercialized in 1990 in an album with 19 tracks. In 2010, La La Land expanded the soundtrack up to 34 tracks, in an excellent edition. The complete booklet of the expanded score includes abundant notes about the creators of the movie, and a story across the tracks of the album that tells the complete story of the movie. A written version of the lyrics of, at least, the compositions of John Williams, Somewhere In My Memory and Star Of Bethlehem, is missed.

And the same year 2015, La La Land returns to re-edit the score of Home Alone that they already was editing in 2010, but this time in a 2 disc edition that includes some new tracks, besides the original 1990 album. It is something strange that La La Land does a new edition of this soundtrack with more content and more notes in the attached booklet than their own version of 2010, but a new masterization in high resolution, the proximity to the Christmas dates and the depletion of the 2010 edition make possible this Christmas miracle. What we do not like so much is to continue discovering that the "film versions" of any tracks are not included from the beginning, and with several versions of the soundtrack released on the market, even now they continue being published tracks that had not been edited in the version used for the film.
