REVIEW

Scream (ENGLISH)

Scream (Marco Beltrami). Scream begins with the stifling sequence of the student murder Casey Becker and her boyfriend at the hands of Ghostface, a ruthless murderer dressed in a black robe and a white mask. Shortly after, her friend Sidney begins to suffer the harassment of the same assassin. While Ghostface is killing people in the Sydney circle, she has to cope with doubts about who might be behind the mask, as well as dealing with the intrusions of journalist Gale Weathers, who time ago had written a book about the murder of Sidney's mother and with whom she does not get along well.

The soundtrack of Marco Beltrami is atmospheric until sometimes remembering Brad Fiedel's Terminator and, at times, oppressive. But in addition, combined with sad themes bordering the epic that Beltrami has already proven dominate in soundtracks such as Hellboy, The Wolverine or World War Z.

Although the soundtracks of horror films are often characterized by abusing purely orchestral effects, Scream is plagued by other types of themes. Although it makes use of the orchestral textures effects for the most terrifying sequences, its thematic variety turns it into a soundtrack surprisingly entertaining. Thus, the sad Sid's House and End Credits, the disturbing Red Herring and the rhythmic Trouble In Woodsboro, Backdoor Gail and Schoolyard 2, provide oxygen and entertainment against all odds.

In 1996, the album of songs was released with just one track of Beltrami's score. It was not until 1998 when Varèse Sarabande commercialized an album with tracks selected from the soundtracks of Marco Beltrami for Scream (1996) and Scream 2 (1997), which was quite short, since it only included 29 minutes of music. For vinyl lovers, Varèse reissued this compilation with music from both films in 2016 with a different artistic design. Fortunately, a few years earlier, in 2011, Varèse Sarabande also struggled to edit a deluxe edition that included an extended version with the music from the first part of the saga. This edition included 63 minutes of scares and orchestral originality, which was especially appreciated in the more relaxed and intimate details, playing mainly with piano and percussion instruments.

Including short-lived tracks, except for two of them, The Cue From Hell and They're Crazy, which are around 10 minutes, the 2011 edition is the edition that had to be published from the beginning, obviating the very short compilation of 1998.

Scream: Vigila quien llama (ESPAÑOL)

Scream: Vigila quien llama (Marco Beltrami).
