Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (ENGLISH)

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (Edward Shearmur). As visually powerful as innovative, Kerry Conran's film is a mixture of superhero movie, classic adventure, film noir and animation. Although technology tends to age poorly, this is not a case apart, and what in some sequences is a great plane, in many others ends up looking like a succession of intentionally blurred images of little definition. Even so, the risk of the project deserves a great applause. For the music Conran counted with Edward Shearmur, who composed his greater and high-profile work.

With a theme for the hero of the film, Sky Captain, The World of Tomorrow is an ambitious score, with a lot of classical film music (very evident in themes related to journalist Polly Perkins like The Office) and what it can do the delights of the lovers of the music of the beginnings of the cinema in Hollywood. Without excessively large orchestration, The Robot Army has all the ingredients to define the invasion of the Totenkopf navy. Choirs, percussion, strings and wood wind describe the scene with remarkable success. Within the abundance of the score, perhaps the most outstanding themes are the fanfares of Finding Frankie and Manta Squadron, and, undoubtedly, Back to Earth, the few easy to remember along with the main theme.

The original album was released in 2004 with a sufficient 57 minutes. In 2017, La-La Land Records reissues the score with more than 50 minutes extra compared to the 2004 version, in addition to an extensive and attractive booklet.
