REVIEW

The Firm (ENGLISH)

The Firm (Dave Grusin). With the only presence of a piano and barely helped with synthesizers and percussion for some concrete moments, Grusin's score adds music to the movie with a mixing of musical styles between blues, comedy, many parts of thriller and some with a more dynamic tone for the action sequences. The themes of suspense stand out, where the melodies made with a few and disturbing notes are one of the specialties that Grusin has already shown in this and other soundtracks. Known this, and in spite of the fact that it could looks like a boring score, nothing farther from the reality. The score is pleasant, probably slightly long to be listening to a piano solo almost constantly, but it is the proof of that, at least in this case, a piano and a little more instruments are enough to realize a perfect composition for the dramatic action showed in the movie.

The expanded score increases very much the quantity of music of the original 1993 album, which was a mixture between some of Grusin's compositions and the sung themes present in the movie. The compilation appears on 2 discs, where the first one contains the score listened in the movie, and the second one contains the original 1993 album, besides some alternate tracks of Grusin's score. Normally, the incorporation of the original album in this type of editions results redundant and almost bored for being repeating content, but due to the poor quantity of Dave Grusin's music that was contained in the first album, besides for the sung themes, the incorporation of the original album in this compilation helps to improve the musical experience of the soundtrack.

As La La Land use to do, the score adds a booklet with extensive information, including comments from the composer.
