REVIEW

The Passion of the Christ (ENGLISH)

The Passion of the Christ (John Debney). One of the most famous scores composed by John Debney receives its expanded edition 10 years after the original edition. La La Land edits two discs with more than two hours of music and with a raised quantity of copies for sale for this type of limited editions.

Though it is probably an overvalued score, due in big part for the presence of a great final theme as is Resurrection, there was such the epic comerciality of that theme that it was reused as the trailer music, granting it an immediate world dimension. This repercussion would have not been such if this theme has not been used in the trailer, though it is also true that its presence in the trailer raised tremendously the repercussion of the movie. And, for all of this, it is necessary to emphasize the special attention that has been put in the music used for the different formats of the trailer. Not for nothing, the music that was accompanying the same one was one of the big claims to go to see the film, and one of big missings in the original soundtrack. In the edition for the Tenth Anniversary, up to 3 themes are centred on the music of the trailer, a circumstance probably never seen before in a soundrtack album. Traces of the resurrection theme are listened in some passages of the soundtrack, though Mel Gibson's brutal story about Christ's Passion does not leave space for an epic theme as Resurrection is up to the final credits.

The edition for the Tenth Anniversary of the movie includes the score and some alternate tracks in 2-CD remastered format (thing that La La Land uses to do often, which takes us to the logical question: is the original master always improvable, including for soundtracks of the 21st century?). The extensive booklet of 24 pages includes notes from the director, Mel Gibson, the composer, John Debney, the omnipresent vocalist of the Hollywood cinema, Lisbeth Scott, and the interpreter of wind instruments Pedro Eustache.
