REVIEW

Tomorrow Never Dies (ENGLISH)

Tomorrow Never Dies (David Arnold). With one of the most extravagant titles in the saga, Tomorrow Never Dies was the first score composed by the great David Arnold for the 007 saga. The sung theme of the film featured by Sheryl Crow is at the level of the best sung themes of the franchise. Meanwhile, Surrender reuses Arnold's score to turn it into a song, and Moby reconditions Monty Norman's original Bond theme in an updated and rhythmic version of it. As far as the Arnold score is concerned, White Night begins with one of the best presentations of the Bond theme, pure and crystalline. The Sinking of the Devonshire brings out the most strident metals, reminiscent at times to the David Arnold of Independence Day, and how well they match the personality of the brazen secret agent. Paris and Bond gives us back the romantic theme that Arnold has shown to master in scores such as ID4 and Godzilla, and that brings that variety to the action thematic that greatly enriches the soundtrack.

But truncated the creativity of David Arnold due to submit to the franchise and its main theme, the soundtrack is an efficient and correct product without anything especially original worth remembering. Perhaps with the exception of the experimental Helicopter Ride and the heroic All In A Day's Work.

The original soundtrack was commercialized in 1997, including the Arnold’s score and the 3 songs previously mentioned. In 1999, another record label reedited the soundtrack, this time in a "score alone" format, regardless of the songs, adding tracks not included in the 1997 version, as well as an interview with the composer himself in which he talks about the film and the music of John Barry for the original 007.
